Friedrich Nietzsche is one of the most fascinating, debated, and misunderstood thinkers in the entire history of Western philosophy. Born in 1844 into a family of Lutheran pastors in Prussia, he lost his father as a child, grew up surrounded by devout women, and was educated in the strictest traditions of German Protestantism. Decades later, he would declare the death of God and propose one of the most radical critiques of Christian morality ever formulated by a European philosopher. In this biographical documentary, we follow the complete trajectory of Friedrich Nietzsche: from his childhood in Röcken and Naumburg to his training in the elite of classical German philology, from his intense and painful friendship with Richard Wagner to the isolation of his nomadic years in Europe, from his impossible passion for Lou Salomé to the creation of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, from his collapse in Turin to the hijacking of his legacy by his sister Elisabeth and Nazism, and finally to the restoration of his philosophy by scholars who returned the real Nietzsche to the world. We explore in depth the central concepts of his thought: the death of God as a cultural diagnosis, passive nihilism and active nihilism, master morality and slave morality, the will to power as a force of self-creation, the overman as the horizon of human existence, eternal return, and amor fati. We also investigate the mystery of his mental collapse in January 1889, for which medicine has not yet found a definitive explanation.
