What connects elementary particle collisions with observations of distant galaxies? How can scientists predict the existence of new particles before they are discovered experimentally? And how do we know the structure of stars and other astronomical objects if we cannot directly study them? In this popular science lecture, Dr. Rafał Lalik takes listeners on a journey through two seemingly distant worlds – the microworld of particle physics and the macroworld of space. He explains how modern physics developed, how scientific theories are formed, and why experiments conducted in particle accelerators help us better understand the structure and evolution of the Universe. This accessible introduction to physics, astronomy, and astrophysics shows how modern science discovers phenomena invisible to the naked eye. The lecture was recorded on April 28, 2026, at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University, as part of the "Closer to Science" series.
