It is a packed, high-speed day in the life at Sheraton Park Farms, and today we are giving you an unfiltered look at the victories, the crop failures, and the raw reality of running a farm business with your partner. We start out in the main garden field checking in on our field corn and cane fields. Neither crop has performed well this season, but rather than letting the weeds win, Saundra and Chuck fire up the tiller and grab the hoes to salvage what we can. While finishing up the hard work in the rows, Saundra makes an incredible discovery: our red skin potatoes are ready early, and digging up a handful reveals a beautiful, massive harvest! From there, we transition to our raised beds to clear space and plant our fall successions of beets and turnips. Next, it’s time for the livestock rounds. We head out to feed and check in on the pigs before stopping by the laying flock to collect eggs and visit a very stubborn, broody goose sitting on her nest. The workload keeps rolling as we move a fresh batch of small chickens out of the brooder and into the mobile chicken tractor on pasture, where they will begin their daily rotational moves. Finally, Chuck wires up a new fence energizer to the electrified netting around the garden perimeter to protect our ripening sweet corn from predators.
