Charles Ray Thoughts on Sculpture I
Artist Charles Ray delivers the first in a series of lectures, Thoughts on Sculpture, at the Menil. Ray will consider themes like subject matter as a formal element; sculpture with holes; and bronze and the work of Rodin, Degas, and Matisse. The series offers a rare opportunity to hear from a contemporary artist who himself has made significant and innovative contributions to the field. Nineteen of Ray’s sculptures are on view at the Art Institute of Chicago in Charles Ray: Sculpture 1997-2014, co-organized with Kunstmuseum Basel. Two additional lectures will occur in the spring. Public Program of the Menil Collection. Friday, October 23, 2015.
