On the Move Transhumance in Pindos, Northern Greece
Transhumance - the movement of herds for grazing each year from mountain to plain and back again - is a cultural tradition which has been practiced in the Mediterranean for thousands of years yet it is still very much alive across the Mediterranean basin. This short video gives a small taste of the life way of the Vlach, transhumant shepherds of Northern Pindos in Greece. Through their own stories, perceptions and songs they take us on a journey to their past and their present as well as the fascinating landscape they call home for the summer months each year. The video was created by MedINA in the framework of a project on transhumance in the Mediterranean, led by the Mediterranean Consortium for Nature and Culture and funded by the MAVA Foundation for Nature.
