Róisín Dubh: Gabby Fitzgerald Uilleann Pipes

This short film portrays the beauty and culture of Ireland right back through the ages from the dawn of time. The architecture of Neolithic times is represented in these beautiful historic monuments where megalithic tombs peppered the landscape in a time where The Tuath De Danann are credited with the naming of Ireland. The most notable of these tombs can be found at Newgrange in Co.Meath. The film also explores the varied number of archeological sites from the arrival of the Celts through to the Middle ages and the arrival of Christianity and its impact on the island. One of the most significant representations of this is the magnificent Skellig Michael and which is one of the only two UNESCO World Heritage sites in Ireland. As well as a wealth of history that conveys man's personal sacrifice endured through religion and chastity there is also a fantastic profusion of bird life on and around the island. All of the monuments still stand strong today just like our musical heritage that still echos our rich history. The unique and haunting sound of the Uilleann pipes - also an UNESCO world heritage instrument help to reimagine our rich history.
