Published on 11 November 2020 by CHE-MARIE TRIGG #Supermarket giant #Coles has launched its second Sydney #ColesLocal store in #Chatswood, following the concept’s debut in #RoseBay earlier this year. Like its eastern-suburbs compatriot, #ColesLocalChatswood has been designed to cater to the needs of the area’s residents – and is also the first Australian supermarket with a beauty and cleaning-product refill station. Stocked with #Ecostore products, the #refillstation uses bottles made from recycled and sugarcane plastic, cutting down on the need for single-use packaging. Customers can choose a small or large bottle and fill it up with shampoo, conditioner, body wash or laundry liquid. Once their bottles have run out of product, they can return to the store for refills. More than 200 #plantbased food products are stocked in the new store, along with 800 #readytoeat products geared towards the local population which – according to data collected by Coles – is largely made up of working professionals. Local dogs are also taken care of with a #pickandmixbar and a range of #petfoodicecream. Australian Bureau of Statistics census figures show that one-quarter of Chatswood residents were born in #Asian countries. So, Coles has devoted an entire aisle to more than 600 products from Asia, including popular brands such as #Samyang, #Lotte and #Haitai. Twenty-five of the store’s 35 staff members are bilingual, to assist customers who don’t count English as their first language. The store also has partnered with 35 local butchers, bakers and cafes on product ranges. Expect pasta, salads and meals from #PastaPantry, baked goods from #Sonoma and meat from eastern-suburbs butcher #FieldtoFork. Like its Rose Bay counterpart, #ColesLocalChatswood has gone hard on sustainability measures, with trolleys made from recycled plastic milk bottles, free recycled boxes to use in place of bags and employee name tags and uniforms partly made from recycled materials. Unsold food will be donated to food-rescue charities, and what can’t be donated will be composted and used for green-energy generation. Coles Local’s third Sydney store is slated to open in #Manly later this year.
