Gunfight in Cangas de Onís | Bank robbery leaves one officer injured and one robber dead One of the two robbers has been arrested, while the second committed suicide by shooting himself after freeing the three hostages inside the bank branch. An officer sustained minor injuries during the exchange of gunfire. The robbery of a Liberbank branch in the center of Cangas de Onís ended with one Civil Guard officer injured, one of the robbers arrested, and a second robber dead after shooting himself in the head. Shortly after noon, the three hostages inside the bank branch were able to leave, and subsequently, the robber who was also inside committed suicide. The deceased robber is J.C.S.G., born in Miranda de Ebro (Burgos) in 1957. The other robber, initially arrested, has been identified as J.M.S.V., also born in the Burgos town in 1974. The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. at a Liberbank branch located on Avenida de Covadonga, in the heart of Cangas de Onís. A woman who was about to enter the branch shortly after the robbers alerted emergency services (112) upon noticing the situation. Eyewitnesses explained that the two robbers left the bank and one of them began shooting at the officers who arrived at the scene, wounding one of them in the arm. The officer was initially treated by paramedics at the scene and then transported by ambulance. The Civil Guard responded with several shots and managed to arrest one of the robbers, while the other barricaded himself inside the bank. The officers gave him a mobile phone to put him in contact with a negotiator who convinced him to release the three hostages. He then shot himself, sustaining injuries that ultimately proved fatal, according to Civil Guard sources. The incident has caused considerable alarm among residents. One of the witnesses, a customer at the La Golosa café, located directly across from the bank branch, recounted that the two robbers left the bank and one of them began firing at the officers, with one of the shots hitting the café's facade. While repelling the attack and arresting one of the robbers, the Civil Guard asked the people in the café, including the branch manager, to remain inside. Given the tense situation created by one of the armed robbers barricading himself inside a building with several hostages, the Civil Guard maintained a large security perimeter for several hours to keep onlookers away. Once their operation was complete, the officers received applause from the numerous residents gathered in the area. #documentary #crime #spain
