Nest Box Observations 2025 Ep. 1: March 25 - April 4, 2025 (Observation Days 1-11) In this area, the Varied Tits seem to start nesting the earliest. This year, they began bringing nesting material from March 25th, earlier than last year (April 7th). However, progress was quite slow due to factors like heavy snow mid-way. Moreover, they were bringing material to two different nest boxes simultaneously for a while, making it seem like they couldn't decide which one to choose. It was nerve-wracking to watch, but by the 10th day of observation, they finally seemed to have made a decision... Also, when they were working on two boxes concurrently, I wondered if they might be different individuals. However, once they settled on one box, they completely stopped bringing material to the other, so I believe it's the same pair. After they decided, the male's nest box patrolling has been very strict this year. For some reason, he's also patrolling the other two empty nest boxes, preventing other tits from moving in... On top of that, a nearby house has installed many nest boxes this year, so there's a high chance potential occupants might choose those instead. I expect we'll know who moves into the remaining boxes by late April. It seems I won't have much time for editing again this year. This year, I plan to proceed with the "Nest Box Observations 2025" series from the start, and begin editing once the story becomes clearer to some extent.
