Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany (Pt. 1) - Volksmarch 3/2024

It was great to be back in Ramstein and enjoy what the area has to offer. Memories of 25 years ago filled my head as I began the walk through Miesenbach, an area I frequented in times gone by. Feeling young again (or more accurately not paying proper attention to the distance markings which were only reflected at the beginning of the walk and one other time via chalk on the trail), I completed the 16Km walk. Marking my longest distance since arriving back in country, I thoroughly enjoyed the accomplishment though my body continues to remind me that a lot has changed over the past couple of decades. The walk didn't disappoint. After a quick walk on the eastern edge of Miesenbach, the trail led walkers along the Seewoog area...a very nice and tranquil area. Through fields and forests, the trail turned north just west of Mackenbach where it led walkers along the edge of the Barbarossa golf club. The trail continued through fields of various states of growth toward Reichenbach-Steegen before heading south where it winded through Kottweiller-Schwanden and finished back at the Mehrzweckhalle. As usual, the starthall welcomed all walkers with pastries, food and drinks of all varieties. The schweinsteak mit brot has always been in my top 5 of all Volksmarch treats and the Ramstein Roadrunners still do them best!
