🇨🇮🇸🇳 POURQUOI LA CÔTE D’IVOIRE EST-ELLE UN “NAIN DÉMOCRATIQUE” FACE AU SÉNÉGAL ? (DÉBAT)
Deciphering Africa has reached a critical juncture. Without several hundred monthly supporters, the program will cease operations. Support independence: https://donorbox.org/decrypterlafrique http://decrypterlafrique.tikerama.com Ivory Coast is one of West Africa's major economic powers. But politically, one question keeps recurring: why does the country struggle so much to organize an electoral competition accepted by all? More than thirty years after the return of multiparty politics, the same divisions continue to structure Ivorian political life. The same figures still dominate the landscape, the wounds of past crises remain open, and each major presidential election reignites tensions. The 2025 presidential election has passed, but it left behind many unanswered questions. Is Ivory Coast a prisoner of its political history? Of its institutions? Or of its leaders? The contrast is often drawn with Senegal, another major player in Francophone West Africa. Despite the open conflict between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko, and despite two now competing power centers, the power struggle continues, for the time being, to play out within an institutional framework. 👉 Does Senegal truly possess a stronger democratic culture? 👉 Or does this comparison mask two profoundly different national histories? 👉 Why has Dakar experienced several peaceful transfers of power while Abidjan remains marked by painful transitions? 👉 Does the Ivorian problem stem from the people involved… or from the rules of the game? We will also address the central issue of the Ivorian electoral system following the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI). New institution, electoral reform, trust between the government and the opposition: can Côte d'Ivoire finally establish an arbiter accepted by all? To discuss this, Fabrice Wuimo welcomes: 🔹 Arthur Banga, historian, specialist in international relations and military affairs, professor at Félix Houphouët-Boigny University. 🔹 Salomé Meiers-Naëm, member of Laurent Gbagbo's PPA-CI party. #IvoryCoast #Gbagbo #Ouattara #Senegal #Sonko #Diomaye #DecipheringAfrica
