Lu Fang: Breaking the Wall of High-Power AI Needs | Science Summit 2025

On 9 November 2025, Lu Fang presented “Breaking the Wall of High-Power AI Needs” at the Falling Walls Science Summit 2025 in Berlin. Lu Fang is a Professor of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, where she bridges physical optics and artificial intelligence to advance next-generation imaging and neuromorphic computing. Her pioneering work includes the development of the “Taichi” photonic computing chip, which delivers powerful, energy-efficient AI capabilities and charts a path toward a more sustainable digital future. Dr. Fang received her Ph.D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and her B.E. from the University of Science and Technology of China. Her research has been published in leading journals such as Science, Nature, and Nature Photonics. She is also a recipient of the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers. Lu Fang is the Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year 2025 in the Engineering & Technology category.
