The A-10 Warthog and Its Losses in the 1991 Gulf War The A-10, known as the "Warthog," was designed to take on large Soviet armored formations. Captain Storr was not rescued and was declared killed in action. In reality, Storr managed to parachute out. Neither he nor Miller saw exactly what hit him, but Storr just felt his aircraft get hit hard after making the same left turn after his second strafing run. Storr's stick had no effect on the control surfaces, so he switched to manual reversion, but that didn't help either. He parachuted out at about 2,000 feet.
