Presencias Flamencas en la UCA: Juan Villar entrevistado por Javier Osuna

The Flamenco Presences at the University of Cádiz welcomed flamenco singer Juan Villar on November 13, 2014. The artist was accompanied by journalist Javier Osuna, who introduced and interviewed him at an event held on the Asunción Campus in Jerez and organized by the University Extension Service of the University of Cádiz. Juan Villar was born in Cádiz in 1947. The son of La Jineta, he was initially known as Juanito el de La Jineta. He began his professional career at just seven years old with the Los Chavalillos Gaditanos troupe. He later distinguished himself as a flamenco singer, performing with dancers such as La Tati, Manuela Carrasco, El Güito, and Faíco in various flamenco venues and tours. His popularity grew in the Madrid flamenco venues of Torres Bermejas and Los Canasteros, and he joined the group of dancer José Miguel, with whom he traveled to Japan. After several tours abroad, he began performing at Andalusian festivals in the 1970s, where he is now one of the most outstanding artists. He also performed at flamenco clubs, including one named after him in Cádiz, his hometown. Juan is a great connoisseur of the styles of Cádiz and the ports, bringing a unique and spectacular quality to his interpretations thanks to his vocal talent and gifts. He also has a masterful command of rhythm, quickly captivating even the most novice audience. In 2018, he received the seventh "Flamenco Legend" award, presented by "Flamenco de la Isla" and "Venta de Vargas."
