Making 18th Century Shrub
Learn to make a common Colonial American drink, Shrub. This vinegar based beverage can be an alternative to citrus juices and was used to preserve berries and other fruits. Recipes are plentiful and varied, including both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. In this family-friendly video, historical interpreter Becky Whippie of the Historical Society of Cheshire County in Keene, NH, makes two recipes-- strawberry and rhubarb.
