St. Agatha erinnert 2026 mit „Land und Wille“ an Stefan Fadinger und den Bauernkrieg

In 2026, the 400th anniversary of Stefan Fadinger's death will be commemorated. At the open-air theater in St. Agatha, a musical production entitled "Land und Wille" (Land and Will) will be staged, depicting the Upper Austrian Peasants' War of 1626. The project is part of the Upper Austrian Communale 2026 and bridges the gap between history and the present. Around 70 musicians from the Haag am Hausruck brass band, together with approximately 50 singers from the Haag and Grieskirchen-Tolleterau men's choirs, will perform the work in the open air. Hermann Pumberger will conduct. "With this project, we want to make history audible and tangible," says Hermann Pumberger. Music, language, and historical events will intertwine to create a multifaceted narrative of hope, loss, and resistance. The composition is by Georg Wiesinger from Peuerbach. The lyrics are by Sarah Wassermayer and Michael Schreckeneder. Actor Kevin Krennhuber guides the audience through the events of 1626. The focus is on the Upper Austrian peasants during Bavarian rule. Religious pressure and strict regulations characterized the era. Well-known locations such as St. Agatha, Haag am Hausruck, Weiberau, and Linz form the backdrop for the production. For Martin Honzik, artistic director of the Upper Austrian Communale, the project fits the overarching theme of "Courage." The Upper Austrian Communale 2026 commemorates the events of the Peasants' War 400 years ago and explores their relevance to the present day. Christine Huber, president of the Upper Austrian Forum for Folk Culture, also sees the connection between music, history, and regional identity as an important contribution to the culture of remembrance. "Land and Will" is a production created in Stefan Fadinger's hometown of St. Agatha to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Upper Austrian Peasants' War, thus exploring one of the most significant uprisings in the region's history.
