Episode: 095 Our journey took us to one of the cities that, in the saddest way possible, has become one of the most famous in the world, and we must say it's a thrill to set foot in Medellín for the first time. A city reminiscent of legend, famous in the '80s and '90s for being the most dangerous in the world, a stronghold of Pablo Escobar and his narcos. A few years ago, following the Netflix series Narcos, the city was once again in the news, but in reality, much has changed in Medellín today. We park our 4x4 camper, grab our motorbike, and tour this metropolis that is doing everything it can to turn the page and leave its past behind. We'll experience moments of everyday life, searching for spare parts for our truck and motorcycle, while getting an up-close look at the city center and Comuna 13, famous for being the most infamous neighborhood in the most dangerous city in the world in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, everything has changed here; there's a sense of security and a zest for life. The streets of Medellin are all decorated with murals painted by artists from around the world, and so this city truly seems to be rising from its ashes, perhaps also aided by its citizens, who truly don't seem to want to return to the past. Who we are: Simone and Lucia, a couple who have been traveling full-time since April 2017 aboard our truck, which we named Valentino. We left Italy not to escape, quite the opposite. We did it to discover the world that hosts us, the people who inhabit it, their diverse traditions, the infinite and fascinating cultures that make humanity the most beautiful thing there is. We left to immerse ourselves in nature, to see and touch the fauna and flora that enrich our planet, making it the most precious thing we have. We travel with awareness and pride in our Italian culture, something that is part of us and our way of relating to the people and people we meet.
