Leonid Lavrov and Yuri Romanov, detectives at the Komendantsky District Police Department in St. Petersburg, are complete opposites. Romanov is a model family man and an athlete. Lavrov is a womanizer, a regular at the city's most seedy hangouts. Every meeting between them ends in a heated argument. Their superiors have long since learned to exploit the two detectives' constant disagreements, as each has not only their own views on life but also their own approaches to investigative work. Romanov always tries to operate within the law. Lavrov, on the other hand, believes that getting results quickly is important, and whether legal or illegal is irrelevant. But despite their differences, each is ready to protect the other in the event of serious danger. However, it's difficult to imagine a situation that could upset Lavrov and Romanov—both detectives have long treated any risk with equanimity. It is precisely because of this icy calm that their colleagues call them “Die Hard” behind their backs.
