Every denomination has disagreements. Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox Christians, and even different groups within those traditions have debated theology for centuries. That's nothing new. Healthy disagreement can sharpen ideas and help people better understand their own beliefs. The problem begins when those disagreements become the community's primary focus. Instead of presenting a united front on the values they all share, many Christians spend an enormous amount of time criticizing one another over secondary issues, often doing so publicly in front of audiences that don't even share their faith. Rather than strengthening Christianity, it often creates the impression that Christians are more interested in fighting each other than standing together on the issues they broadly agree upon. One example I discuss is the criticism directed at Andrew Wilson by some Protestant women over things like his smoking or his use of profanity. Whether someone believes those habits are sinful or simply unwise is a legitimate topic for discussion. But there's a difference between offering constructive criticism and turning fellow Christians into public enemies over issues that aren't the central message of the faith. It seems like far too often, people spend more energy policing every imperfection within their own side than engaging with ideas and movements that fundamentally oppose the principles they claim to care about. That doesn't mean Christians should ignore sin or abandon accountability. It means they should think carefully about priorities, timing, and whether public feuds actually help accomplish anything. Constructive disagreement has its place. Every community needs honest conversations about doctrine, conduct, and personal responsibility. But those conversations are usually far more productive when they're motivated by a genuine desire to help one another rather than to score points online or win applause from social media. In this video, I explain why I think public Christian infighting has become counterproductive, discuss the Andrew Wilson controversy, and argue that Christians should spend less time tearing each other down over every disagreement and more time building one another up while standing together on the principles they share. Because disagreement doesn't have to become division. And a community that spends all its energy fighting itself will eventually find it has very little left to face the challenges outside of it. Let me know what you think in the comments.
