The four gigantic towers of the "WTC" stand behind the North Station. A working-class neighborhood had to be razed to create a mini-Dallas in Brussels. A few years later, however, it was a failure: the offices were difficult to rent. The authorities came to the developer's rescue. From 1974 onward, the city of Brussels rented out these vacant spaces at exorbitant prices. The destruction of Brussels' North Quarter will be remembered as one of the biggest urban planning scandals of recent decades.
