Alborada del gracioso 1:14:27 Toccata in D Minor, Op. 11 - Sergei Prokofiev Chinese award-winning pianist Jialin Yao has captivated audiences worldwide with his "exquisite melody and profound understanding" and "supreme touch control" (The Boston Musical Intelligencer, 2024). A multifaceted artist, he brings warmth, passion, and magic to his solo, chamber, and teaching appearances. Jialin believes the most moving music comes from open-hearted, truthful artistry. As a global performer, he carries the responsibility of reaching diverse audiences, creating meaningful, transcendent experiences. He has appeared at Verbier Festival, PianoFest in New York, Gilmore Festival, and Ravinia Festival, and in major venues including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Klavierhaus, Jordan Hall, Benaroya Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Forbidden City Hall, Peking University Hall, Horowitz Steinway Hall, and Shenzhen Concert Hall. As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Friuli Venezia Giulia Orchestra, Miami Chamber Orchestra, Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Orchestra Academia China. In 2018, as a distinguished artist of KNS Classical, Jialin released his first album, *Campanella*, featuring works by Beethoven, Liszt, Scriabin, Ravel, and Kapustin. 2024–25 season highlights include Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the (Boulder Symphony, Mercury Orchestra, and Anderson Symphony); the Yellow River Concerto with Beijing Symphony under Lihua Tan; and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Málaga Philharmonic conducted by Salvador Vázquez. He will also perform solo recitals at the Liliane Questel Recital Series, Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts, and Dallas Chamber Music Society’s Van Sickle Recital Series, and collaborate with Midori at Ravinia. Jialin has earned top honors at competitions including the Fou T’song International (2024), Málaga City (2024), Seattle International (2024), Teresa Carreño Master (2023), IKOF (2023), Friuli Venezia Giulia (2022), Singapore International (2021), Steinway (2019), and Shigeru Kawai (2018). A sensitive chamber musician, Jialin has collaborated with Midori Goto, Aaron Boyd, Tarn Travers, Stephanie Huang, Jaewon Wee, Jack Kessler, Muyan Yang, the Amernet String Quartet, Quarteto Carmen Thyssen, and Quartets Academia China. In 2022, his VIA Trio was selected for the Juilliard Honors Chamber Music program, performing Mozart, Dvořák, and Ravel. Beyond performance, Jialin has taught at the Juilliard School as a secondary piano course instructor and is an active concert organizer. In high school, he founded his own orchestra and performed Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto. He later served as associate music director of the “Training Day” ensemble, leading performances of Les Misérables and Notre Dame de Paris across China. He also organized and performed for the opening of the Audrey Hepburn Photographic Exhibition in Beijing. His mentors include renowned musicians Emanuel Ax, Jerome Lowenthal, Robert Levin, Dina Yoffe, Joseph Lin, Augustin Dumay, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Marc-André Hamelin, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Kirill Gerstein, Kim Kashkashian, Ingrid Fliter, Dmitri Alexeev, Paul Schenly, and Lang Lang. Jialin began piano at age 4, studying with Hong Fu at the China Conservatory of Music, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and received guidance from Ruoyu Huang. At 22, he moved to the U.S. to pursue his master’s at the Juilliard School with Sergei Babayan, with whom he now continues at SMU Meadows School of the Arts as an Artist Diploma candidate.
