4 Northern Towns Could Supply Wagyu, Branded Beef To Boost Cebu Tourism!! With an estimated 10,000 hectares of land previously planted to Sugarcane now abandoned following the closure of the sugar mill in the area, the four Northern Areas of Cebu - Bogo City, Medellin, Dannbantayan and San Remigio - could shift to Cattle Farming and supply the Beef requirements of the whole province. Shortly after the day-long 1st Cebu Food Security Forum in Medellin Thursday, July 10, veteran Cattleman Arnel Corpuz, who was one of the lecturers during the event, decided to survey the vast lands previously planted to Sugarcane. Seeing the wide area which could be planted to Sorghum, Soybeans and Corn, both Arnel and I agreed that the four Northern towns and city could feed up to 20,000 heads of Cattle every 100 days or 60,000 heads every year. That number would be more than enough to supply the Beef needs of the Province estimated at about 1-kilo per capita or a total of 16,000 heads every year. In his presentation during the 1st Cebu Food Security Forum, Arnel recommended a Wagyu Production and Beef Upgrading Program in Cebu to support the province's tourism program.
