Badami Cave Temples | बादामी गुफा मंदिर The Badami Cave Temples are a spectacular complex of four ancient rock-cut temples located in Badami, India. Carved directly into towering rust-red sandstone cliffs during the 6th century by the Chalukya Dynasty, these caves represent some of the finest achievements of early Indian temple architecture. Overlooking the serene Agastya Lake, the site combines artistic brilliance, religious devotion, and natural beauty, making it one of Karnataka’s most treasured heritage monuments. Cave 1 (Dedicated to Shiva) The oldest of the four caves, Cave 1 is renowned for its magnificent sculptures of Lord Shiva. Its most celebrated artwork is the impressive 18-armed Nataraja, depicting Shiva performing the cosmic dance. The cave also features beautifully carved images of Ganesha and Mahishasuramardini. Cave 2 (Dedicated to Vishnu) This cave is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu and showcases remarkable Vaishnavite themes. Highlights include large reliefs of Vishnu as Trivikrama, measuring the universe in three strides, and Bhuvaraha, the boar incarnation rescuing the Earth. Cave 3 (The Largest and Most Ornate) Dating to 578 CE, Cave 3 is the largest and most richly decorated of the Badami caves. Its walls and pillars are adorned with exquisite carvings depicting Narasimha, Anantasayana (the reclining Vishnu), Harihara, and other divine figures. The cave is considered the masterpiece of Badami's rock-cut architecture. Cave 4 (Dedicated to Jainism) Situated slightly apart from the other caves, Cave 4 reflects the influence of Jainism. The sanctum houses beautifully sculpted images of Lord Mahavira, accompanied by figures of Tirthankaras and the goddess Padmavati. The refined carvings demonstrate the spiritual and artistic diversity of the Chalukyan period. --- बादामी गुफा मंदिर | बादामी गुफा मंदिर भारत के Badami में स्थित चार प्राचीन शैलकृत (रॉक-कट) मंदिरों का एक अद्भुत समूह है। 6वीं शताब्दी में Chalukya Dynasty शासकों द्वारा लाल बलुआ पत्थर की ऊँची चट्टानों को काटकर निर्मित ये गुफाएँ भारतीय स्थापत्य और मूर्तिकला की उत्कृष्ट उपलब्धियों में गिनी जाती हैं। अगस्थ्य झील के किनारे स्थित यह परिसर धार्मिक आस्था, कलात्मक सौंदर्य और प्राकृतिक वैभव का अनूठा संगम प्रस्तुत करता है। गुफा 1 (भगवान शिव को समर्पित) चारों गुफाओं में सबसे प्राचीन, यह गुफा भगवान शिव को समर्पित है। यहाँ की सबसे प्रसिद्ध प्रतिमा 18 भुजाओं वाले नटराज की है, जिसमें शिव के ब्रह्मांडीय नृत्य का अद्भुत चित्रण किया गया है। इसके अतिरिक्त गणेश तथा महिषासुरमर्दिनी की सुंदर मूर्तियाँ भी यहाँ देखी जा सकती हैं। गुफा 2 (भगवान विष्णु को समर्पित) यह गुफा वैष्णव परंपरा को समर्पित है। यहाँ भगवान विष्णु के त्रिविक्रम तथा भूवराह अवतारों के विशाल और प्रभावशाली शिल्प अंकित हैं, जो चट्टानों पर उकेरी गई उत्कृष्ट कला का परिचय देते हैं। गुफा 3 (सबसे विशाल और भव्य) 578 ईस्वी की इस गुफा को बादामी की कला का शिखर माना जाता है। लगभग 70 फीट चौड़ी इस गुफा में नरसिंह, अनंतशायी विष्णु, हरिहर तथा अन्य देवताओं की भव्य मूर्तियाँ हैं। इसकी नक्काशी और स्थापत्य सौंदर्य दर्शकों को मंत्रमुग्ध कर देता है। गुफा 4 (जैन धर्म को समर्पित) पूर्व दिशा में स्थित यह गुफा जैन धर्म की आध्यात्मिक परंपरा को दर्शाती है। गर्भगृह में भगवान महावीर की सुंदर प्रतिमा स्थापित है, जिसके साथ तीर्थंकरों और पद्मावती की उत्कृष्ट मूर्तियाँ भी हैं। इसकी सूक्ष्म नक्काशी चालुक्य काल की कलात्मक विविधता और धार्मिक सहिष्णुता का प्रमाण है।
