7 Jewellery Myths You Still Believe

Jewellery is sold through romance, prestige, tradition, and a lot of inherited advice that sounds sensible until you look at the materials and industry properly. In this video I break down seven of the most common jewellery myths people still believe, from engagement ring spending rules to lab-grown gemstones, precious metal hierarchies, and the idea that heavier automatically means better made. I’m Mason, a jeweller and founder of Urban Sterling. On this channel I explore the materials science and craft behind jewellery. The industry is extremely opaque, and a lot of the information that actually matters tends to stay inside workshops rather than being explained clearly. My goal is to open that up a bit, looking at the materials, physics, history, and design logic behind jewellery so you can understand why some “common sense” advice is actually nonsense.
