Intellijel Metropolix Solo & Friends | Winterdagen

The Intellijel Metropolix is my favourite eurorack sequencer. When a little while ago Intellijel decided to release a stand-alone case (with MIDI out!) for it, I immediately had to get one. I really love being able to easily use this crazy sequencer with my non-modular synths as well, here's a first video in which I do exactly that. I'm used to writing melodies on keys, as I come from a piano background. The approach to writing with Metropolix is just about the opposite of that and that's why I love it so much. It's more of a playground in which you can explore melodies and rhythms. On the face its 8 stages seem limited, but it's incredibly deep. Every time I turn this thing one, beautiful melodies roll out. Beautiful melodies I would never have written on piano. For this gloomy piece I used my trusty Dreadbox Typhon, which I use in every live show I play, and my Behringer Cat. Both synths have a pretty different character; Cat - on bass duty here - has a very driven sound, which I really like for fat and intense bass sounds. Typhon - on lead duty here - has this moving and eerie sound, its filter really sings and I think it punches way above its price range. I added some Valhalla Space Modulator & Vintage Verb to tie it all together.
