Sturgeon - Pete & Julian Tagging Juveniles
A spur of the moment trip out tagging juvenile sturgeon gives my friend Julian a special first day of summer. His first day off work, he volunteered to come out with me to catch and tag the young fish. To catch the small ones we have to gear down the hook size but that doesn't mean the big ones won't bite. Julian has a 10 fish day and a great start to his summer. Thanks for the help Julian. Anyone wanting to help preserve the great white sturgeon of the Fraser River in British Columbia is welcome to go to the Fraser River White Sturgeon Conservation Society web site and donate. You can even adopt a baby sturgeon and monitor it's life history as it is re-captured in our tagging program. This spring we recaptured several fish and found they were growing a cm/month. How much more will they grow depends on the food supply, especially the returning salmon runs. Stay tuned for updates!
