It is someone’s day, and a synonym for labor, family, dreams, and hope. Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest garment producer. Hidden within the small label we overlook when wearing jeans are someone's labor, life, dreams, and hopes. EBS Docuprime will air *Made in Bangladesh*, a documentary chronicling the lives of garment workers in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Director Lee Seung-jun, who became the first Korean to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Short Documentary category for *Memory of Absence*—a film about the Sewol Ferry disaster—directed the program. Made in Bangladesh follows the gaze of photographer Hwang Tae-seok, a former construction worker. Having documented construction sites under the name "Daily Nokada," he heads to Dhaka, Bangladesh, with his camera. While Hwang's camera initially captures a chaotic landscape filled only with stagnation and noise, it gradually discovers the meaning of "labor" and "life" as it follows the lives of workers in jeans factories in Keraniganj and Ashulia. In Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh with a population of 23 million, workers flock every day in search of the "Dhaka Dream." This "city of opportunity" is a fierce "stage for survival." Amidst 10 hours of labor a day, a monthly salary of just over 150,000 won, and chaotic traffic and living conditions, garment factory workers support their families and dream of a future. Made in Bangladesh follows the daily lives of Musharraf, a seamstress working at a small jeans factory in Keraniganj, and Sagar and Sadia, a young couple working at a large garment factory in Ashulia. The daily lives of Musharraf, the father who takes a rickshaw home for his children during a one-hour lunch break, and Sagar and Sadia, who share simple moments eating packed lunches together at the factory, remind us of "happiness in labor." Scenes such as the fast fashion era, the rhythm of the factory, packed lunches, and the excitement of payday bring to mind our own industrialization era of the 1970s and 80s. The production team delicately records the bustling streets of Dhaka, the honking of horns, apartment buildings, power lines in the alleys, and the lives of street workers and garment makers. It shows just how much hands and time have touched a single pair of jeans we wear. The process of discarded scraps of fabric being regenerated into cotton or thread to return as clothing goes beyond simple recycling and symbolizes the cyclical structure of the labor ecosystem.
