Westfield HS Big Red Band 2004 - The Game Within

This performance from the Westfield Big Red Band was the last of their 2004 competition season, at the Bands of America Super Regionals in San Antonio, TX. They finished 6th overall with a score of 87.00. The show is made up of five sections: Level 1 - Game On, Level 2 - Techno, Level 3 - Combat, Level 4 - Landscape, and Level 5 - The Extreme. The music featured in this show include selections from the Final Fantasy video game series, courtesy of Nobuo Uematsu. Including: Final Fantasy 8 – Liberi Fatali FF8 – The Man With the Machine Gun IRRATIONAL IMPULSES FF8 – Maybe I'm a Lion FF8 – The Loser Final Fantasy - Prelude Final Fantasy 9 – The Dark Messenger (Unknown selection) FF8 - The Extreme FF8 - Liberi Fatali (reprise) The following year, Westfield produced a sequel show titled 'Wake From Your Sleep', and reused a majority of this show's repetiore. This was Philip Geiger's final year as director of bands at Westfield. In his 23 years at Westfield High School, he helped lead the band to 5 UIL State Marching Band Championship titles, 8 BOA Regional and 1 BOA Super Regional Chamiponship Titles, 2 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic appearances, and 4 BOA Grand National Championship Finals apperances. This was Ryan Brittain's first year as drum major for Westfield. He later became director of bands at Westfield in 2016 and a judge for Bands of America Grand Nationals in 2021. If you look closely and the front of the field, you can see the BOA Grand National traveller's trophy, also known as Kevin the Grand Nats Eagle. Each BOA Grand National Championship Band receives the trohpy and holds onto it before presenting it back to BOA the following year at their final non-GN BOA competition of the season.
