Calunga Canoeira | Bernardo Aguiar feat.Fernanda Santanna, Carlos Malta, Guto Wirtti & Maria Valle

“Calunga Canoeira” is part of Bernardo Aguiar's first solo album, a visual album where sound and image were conceived together from the beginning. Stories are told with a percussive musical and visual language as the central axis. “Calunga Canoeira” is the immense beyond the sea meeting the immense beyond the land. A caboclo universe full of life, but also of mystery, enchantment, and transformation. It is the portal between the visible and the invisible world, between the place where we fight to survive and the one from which we seek inspiration. Our journey through different worlds is symbolized by a caboclo woman canoeist, guided by the force of water, memory, and the spirits of the forest. Following the path of the anaconda, portals appear where time slows down and the animals dance, sing, and create as they please. Between drums, voices, wind instruments, and floating soundscapes, the crossing transforms into communion. Is the madness of the world inside or outside this portal? CALUNGA CANOEIRA Canoe, Calunga calls To stop Stop pondering And let the sound carry us away The river flows into the sea at the corner of the beach over there Inside, the mangrove swamp and the story I myself saw The canoeist followed the trail of an anaconda And a portal appeared, inside there's even a Saci (a mythical creature from Brazilian folklore) At the portal, the manatee has a drum that calls for apparitions It makes a party on the sand The canoeist was enchanted The alligator that sprouts on the shore is good at drumming The boa constrictor wiggles and floats in the face of the boto (river dolphin) The samba is loose (Fauna played) Calunga Canoeira Was enchanted Calunga Canoeira Was enchanted At the anaconda's portal, the animals invent what is good A cabocla (woman) rowing towards the sun, canoe imagination The world that was left behind, is a fierce world trapped on the ground Life outside of Portal, it's a life of hallucination Animals grinding, jaguar roars in the grotto Jacu changes course The piranha piranhas The macaw claps its paw The armadillo shows its face Otter and monkey in the slyness Fly canoe, cabocla (a type of bird) playfully (Fauna played) Calunga Canoeira (a type of bird) Was enchanted Calunga Canoeira (another type of bird) Canoe, Calunga calls To stop To stop pondering --------------------------------------------------------------- TECHNICAL SHEET Music, lyrics and arrangement: Bernardo Aguiar Tamara, moringa (a type of gourd), atabaques (drums), ngomas (a type of drum), water, gourds, wood, tambor-onça (a type of drum), seeds, caxixis (a type of rattle), tambourine, cymbals, gongs, clapping, electronic sounds, Push 2, synths, sundrum, ambience and voices: Bernardo Aguiar Vocals: Fernanda Santanna Flutes, piccolos and kulutas: Carlos Malta Acoustic bass: Guto Wirtti Cello: Maria Clara Valle Marimba: Gabriel Guinther Musical production, audio editing and mixing: Bernardo Aguiar Mastering: Alexandre Rabaço Concept, camera, archive images, video editing, script and general direction: Bernardo Aguiar Additional images: Micael Hocherman Camera: Daniel Lobo Editing and finalization: Orla Kilesse Illustration, animation and visual programming: Miguel Carvalho Spotify: open.spotify.com/artist/0P45996PTHobExOktF6P6k Instagram: @ritmoaguiarbernardo Website: bernardoaguiar.com.br ------------------------------------------------------------- “Calunga Canoeira” is part of Bernardo Aguiar’s debut visual album, where sound and image were conceived together from the very beginning.
