He Vanished During Gettysburg’s Pickett’s Charge

On July 3, 1863, two cousins from Chesterfield County, Virginia marched into Pickett’s Charge with Company I of the 14th Virginia Infantry. Everett LaPrade survived the assault. Cornelius LaPrade disappeared. Somewhere between Seminary Ridge, the Codori Farm, Emmitsburg Road, and the stone wall at Gettysburg, the cousins were separated in the chaos of battle. Reports suggested Cornelius may have been wounded or captured, but no hospital record, marked grave, or clear final account has ever explained what happened to him. In this video, we walk the ground of Pickett’s Charge, follow the likely path of the 14th Virginia under Lewis Armistead, and explore one of Gettysburg’s forgotten mysteries: what happened to Cornelius LaPrade? This is not just the story of generals and monuments. This is the story of a common soldier who marched into history and vanished.
