Peony Season on the Farm | My Favorite Time of Year + Garden & Trellis Updates

It's finally peony season on the farm... my favorite season of the entire year. I wait for these blooms all year long. There is just something so magical about peonies. The giant flowers, the incredible fragrance, and the fact that they only give us this short little window to enjoy them somehow makes them feel even more special. This season has been a little more challenging than usual, though. We had four 90-degree days right in the middle of May, which is definitely not what we normally expect around here. The heat caused many of the peonies to bloom much faster than I would have liked. As flower growers, we always have to work with whatever Mother Nature decides to give us. Some years it's too much rain, some years it's frost, and this year it seems to be early heat. It keeps us on our toes, that's for sure. Even though the season feels like it's moving at lightning speed, I'm trying to slow down and enjoy every bloom. One of the things flower farming has taught me is that everything has its season. The flowers don't last forever, but maybe that's part of what makes them so beautiful in the first place. While the peonies have been stealing the show, we've also been busy with plenty of other projects around the farm. I'll give you an update on how the garden and seedlings are doing, what is growing well, and what we're still patiently waiting on. Some plants seem to be loving the warmer weather, while others are making us work for every bit of progress. And of course, we've been working on our new trellises. This has been a project we've been looking forward to for a while, and it's exciting to finally start seeing it come together. We're hoping these sturdier trellises will support our berry patch for years to come and make harvesting even easier in the future.
