Hidden Gem On Vancouver Island
Day 3 of our 4 day trip on Vancouver Island, we head over to the Port Alberni area to hopefully locate the Yellow Creek Mine. Starting in June of 1988, this exploration tunnel was constructed to allow access to the Mineral Creek and Linda zones and for use as a drilling platform. After completion in March 1989, this tunnel consisted of 2 cross cuts and was 2km long. The highest assay result was recorded in 1988 in the Mineral Creek zone and was 19.78 grams per tonne gold. The mine sat vacant until 2006 when Bitterroot Resources Ltd drilled 60 holes in the Linda area. The veins thickness ranges from a few centimetres to 1.3 metres and in places it splits into 2 or 3 veins. The gold grades vary from trace up to 467.0 grams per tonne gold and the highest grades are often accompanied by visible gold grains. In 2008, the drilling program was completed and the mine has sat empty ever since. We thank you for taking the time to watch our video and appreciate all the positive support!
