China Clay Gala - Bodmin and Wenford Railway - 2025

A short trip up the road (for me) to the Bodmin & Wenford Railway. The theme of the gala was china clay, and Cornwall’s rich industrial history. Running on the day was GWR prairie 5552, Bagnall saddle tank ‘Judy’, class 47 306 ‘The Sapper’, and recently overhauled class 08 444. The Bodmin Railway has two of the steepest branchlines in the UK; locomotives work hard to climb the gradient. What makes the China Clay gala unique is it has more freight and goods trains than normal service trains, including CDA’s, which were retired from the mainline in 2023. This year's China Clay gala fell earlier than usual; you wouldn’t have noticed from the weather!
