Tavares Strachan’s “The First Supper” at The Royal Academy of Arts

London's Royal Academy of Arts has recently revealed an imposing bronze sculpture inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper. This remarkable creation, named The First Supper, is the brainchild of Tavares Strachan, an artist from the Bahamas. It's featured in a fresh exhibit that explores the relationship between art and colonial history. Strachan's interpretation of the iconic 15th-century masterpiece centers around Black leaders, creators, intellectuals, and notable individuals. At the heart of the sculpture, where Jesus once sat, now sits Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I, and in a bold personal twist, Strachan places himself in the role of Judas.
