Married to Udemilta Pimentel Lopes, father of Mariana and Thiago, daughter-in-law Renata, son-in-law Rafael, grandson Bento and granddaughter Chloe. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Theology at the Southern Presbyterian Seminary in Campinas, São Paulo, from 1978 to 1981, and his Doctorate in Ministry at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, in the United States, from 2000 to 2001. He was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bragança Paulista from 1982 to 1984, and since 1985 he has been pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Vitória. He is also a member of the Evangelical Academy of Letters of Brazil, executive director of Luz para o Caminho in Campinas, and collaborating pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Pinheiros in São Paulo.
