How Shocks Work - "Playing With Knobs" - Do you need adjustable shocks? (1/2)
#adjustable #shocks #damping #suspension #NoKnobs #RideHarmony #FCMElite #FatCatMotorsports For those who have found us through Sean's Chevrolet Corvette testimonial, welcome! A newer vehicle with a complex semi-active suspension is no guarantee the 'computer-controlled' knobs will deliver the best possible grip and handling. This is a very comprehensive video that covers questions any enthusiast (or car owner) needs to know when choosing a new suspension for their vehicle. If only there was clearer communication on what a replacement shock actually does instead of selling on brand or marketing hype! I also shed light onto why many shocks, even though 'adjustable', simply are not designed to provide the optimal ride and grip. There's a lot going on inside a shock and many manufacturers, from original equipment to aftermarket, seem more interested in promoting a brand than delivering results. The vast majority of shock absorbers and complete coilover suspension setups we tune for our FCM Elite do not have adjustable damping. I often say it is better to have adjustable height than adjustable damping. When we apply our thorough methods and interact with you to optimize your Elite suspension, the result is harmony between you and your vehicle. Considerations when buying a shock are: -How is it designed? Can it provide the necessary 'Torque for the Turns' - for comfort or racing? How does its design impact the phase lag or hysteresis as pressure builds up inside the shock? -Does the shock or system achieve the proper damping across the range of shock velocities I will experience in my driving environments? -Are the shocks matching my car's weight, left to right? Is this even considered by the manufacturer? -Do I end up blaming my 'ignorance' for poor ride, or slower lap times, vs. having confidence in a well-designed setup then focusing on my driving? Does the setup give me confidence whether I am cruising leisurely or pounding berms at the track? These are some of the key questions covered in this video. Beware of marketing hype! Make intelligent choices and ask the right questions when choosing a product. Your vehicle's suspension is the link to you and the changing road beneath you. www.the-perfect-ride.com www.fatcatmotorsports.com/ http://www.fatcatmotorsports.com/fcm_...
