According to Oral tradition, Prince Olakanmi, the progenitor of Oro Kingdom migrated from Oyo as a result of a chieftain dispute. The Egba word "Eje ka ro sibi" was the statement made by Prince Olakanmi's wife who is a native of Abeokuta meaning "Let us stay here". The name Oro was derived from the word.
