ORO is an ancient town in Kwara State, Nigeria. Historically, the people of Oro migrated from Oyo Empire to their present location in the southern region of Kwara State. According to Oral tradition, Prince Olakanmi, the progenitor of Oro Kingdom migrated from Oyo as a result of a chieftain dispute. The Egba word "Eje ka ro sibi" was the statement made by Prince Olakanmi's wife who is a native of Abeokuta meaning "Let us stay here". The name Oro was derived from the word.
