Todd Michael Hall - Fighting For The Earth - Live Vocal Cover (Warrior)

My brother Rick introduced me to Warrior and I fell in love with their album Fighting for the Earth when it was released back in 1985. I have no idea why they disappeared for so long afterward, but maybe that is part of their mystique - they released one awesome album, threw the microphone down, then disappeared. I think Parramore McCarty's vocals on this album are awesome. He has a very unique tone, especially when he leans into the grit. The album remains one of my favorites to this day and I love singing along with it. Special thanks to Parramore and the guys from Warrior for the incredible music that inspires us to this day. On the technical side: I am calling this a live vocal cover, because I sang the song from beginning to end in one take without any vocal overdubs or edits. I have been singing along with this album for 40 years, so I know the song really well. While I will never match Parramore's tone, I did try to add some more grit to my voice, so it took a few takes to get that dialed in to the correct amount so as to not overblow it and tire myself out before the end of the song. I think this was about my fourth or fifth take over two different sessions. The music came from Moises (with just the lead vocal deleted). I sent my vocal track and the music track to my friend Kurdt Vanderhoof who added some effects to the vocals and blended them in with the music. Special thanks to Kurdt for his assistance.
