Back Lanes, Lost Tunnel, Perfect Cafe Finish

Today’s ride takes us off the beaten track and straight into hidden history. It’s amazing how much fascinating (and sometimes useless!) knowledge is tucked away right on our doorstep. Along these back lanes—roads I’ve ridden countless times—there’s a forgotten piece of history that helped shape transport between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Once upon a time, goods crawled across Woodhead Moor on drovers’ tracks, carried by horseback and taking days to arrive. Then came the Industrial Revolution—and everything changed. A railway tunnel was carved straight through solid rock, cutting journey times to less than a day. Behind it all? A local hero from Barnsley, one of the unsung heroes of the Industrial Revolution who helped drive this incredible transformation. And to finish the ride? A perfect café stop, splashed in red spots and serving exactly what we need. ☕🍰 Grab your cuppa, settle in, and let’s go for a ride through history. #localhistory #classic350 #ridesinderbyshire #motovlog
