New Narratives: Binu Singh's view on Wet Job by Camille Henrot

Looking through someone else’s eyes can provide fresh insights. Moreover, the Middelheim Museum finds it important not only to give its own perspective on the works on display, but also to allow other voices to have their say and to learn from them. That is why the Middelheim Museum asked different speakers from various fields to explore the exhibition Wet Job by Camille Henrot. They will not be guided by a theme or script, only by their personal interpretations and associations. Dr Binu Singh (b. 1979) is an infant and child psychiatrist and psychotherapist attached to the University Psychiatric Centre KU Leuven. Last year, Binu Singh made a remarkable appearance in the TV programme Alleen Elvis blijft bestaan. She spoke to presenter Thomas Vanderveken about the crucial importance of proper care for young children in the early years of their life. Binu Singh specialized in the as yet unexplored field of early childhood experiences and the consequences they can have later in life. As such she advocates the well-being of very young children in particular. Wet Job is the first solo exhibition by artist Camille Henrot (°1978) in Belgium. The exhibition is the first of its kind to focus on the artist’s practice in sculpture and brings together close to 40 works produced over the last decade in the expansive outdoor setting of the museum. Daarom vroeg het Middelheimmuseum drie sprekers uit diverse vakgebieden om de tentoonstelling Wet Job van Camille Henrot te verkennen. Dr. Binu Singh (°1979) is kinder- en jeugdpsychiater en psychotherapeut, verbonden aan het Universitair Psychiatrisch Centrum KU Leuven. In het tv-programma ‘Alleen Elvis blijft bestaan’ maakte Binu Singh vorig jaar een opvallende passage. Ze sprak met presentator Thomas Vanderveken over het cruciale belang van een goede verzorging van jonge kinderen in hun eerste levensjaren. Binu Singh specialiseerde zich op het nog onontgonnen terrein van vroegkinderlijke ervaringen, en wat die later in het leven allemaal teweegbrengen. Daarmee neemt ze het op voor het welzijn van vooral heel jonge kinderen. Wet Job is de eerste solotentoonstelling in België van kunstenares Camille Henrot (°1978). Het is bovendien de eerste keer dat de kunstenares uitsluitend sculpturen presenteert: de tentoonstelling brengt bijna 40 werken, gemaakt in de afgelopen tien jaar, samen in de uitgestrekte openluchtomgeving van het museum.
