The Tolkien Trail Hike | Forest of Bowland
Joined by my friend Vicki, we drove from Preston for about 30 minutes to the village of Hurst Green, near Clitheroe. Here there is a hike, The Tolkien Trail, named after JRR Tolkien, the author of The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings. The local countryside and place names became inspiration for Tolkien and he based the 'Shire' on this area of Lancashire.
