BARD The first castle (or rather fortress) is located in the small town of Bard, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Today it houses the Alpine Museum and Art Exhibitions USSEL CASTLE Ussel Castle, built around 1343, is an imposing medieval stone manor located on a rocky promontory in Châtillon (Aosta Valley). It represents the first example of a "monobloc" castle in the region, with a compact, elegant, and austere rectangular structure. Today, it hosts exhibitions and is open in the summer. FENIS CASTLE The most famous castle in the Aosta Valley, built in the 13th century, features medieval-style towers and turrets. CASTEL SAVOY or GRESSONEY or QUEEN MARGHERITA Built by order of Queen Margherita of Savoy, nestled in a fairytale setting amidst the woods, The residence hosted the Queen during her summer stays until 1925, a year before her death, which occurred in Bordighera on January 4, 1926. After being purchased in 1936 by the Milanese industrialist Moretti, the castle became the property of the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta in 1981.
