BTS March 2023 Lecture - Geopolymer Concrete in Tunnelling

NOTE: LATER THAN USUAL 6:30pm START Geopolymer Concrete in Tunnelling Developments in ultra-low carbon concrete for underground works Speakers: John Day – Wagners Earth Friendly Concrete (EFC) Charles Allen – OTB Concrete Ltd Richard Sutherden – HMJV Embodied Carbon reduction is essential for the future sustainability of infrastructure projects. Shaft and tunnel linings contribute in the region of 70% of embodied carbon associated with a tunnelling project. Geopolymer concrete is able to reduce the embodied carbon of concrete by up to 80%. In this presentation, John Day will explain developments made over the last decade in the testing and use of geopolymer concrete and how adoption is increasing worldwide. Charles Allen will then discuss applications for geopolymer concrete in tunnel linings and its high durability performance.
