🍶🍶Trying EVERY Sake We Could Find in Takayama, Japan

We planned a simple sake tasting in Takayama 🍶 It quickly turned into a full-on Japanese Alpine sake marathon. Takayama might be famous for Hida wagyu beef, but on this stop of our Japan road trip, it turned out to be all about the amazing local sake. Nestled in the Japanese Alps, Takayama is home to several historic sake breweries — and we made it our mission to try as many as possible. From traditional tasting rooms to hidden local spots, we sampled a lot of sake 🍶 (maybe too much). Between tastings, we explored the city’s highlights — wandering the Takayama morning market, strolling through Old Town, and soaking up the atmosphere that makes this town feel like you are stepping back in time. Of course, no visit would be complete without trying the legendary Hida beef, Japan’s most prized wagyu. We end our tour at the Hida Folk Village and a peaceful local shrine, ending a slightly tipsy but unforgettable visit in the Japanese Alps. If you love Japanese sake, wagyu beef, and off-the-beaten-path travel, this one’s for you.
