Expeditions to the Vanished Town of Pillinger.

A short story about Pillinger, a forgotten town in Kelly Basin, Macquarie Harbour. In its few short years this port with 3 jetties, brick kilns, rail and tramways, four hotels, a church, community hall and cemetery, simply disappeared off the face of the earth after only a few years. Paid for by wealthy London investors, it promised much, being linked to one of the richest copper deposits in Australia at the time. Follow me on a number of sea kayaking expeditions, where we stumbled upon this remarkable location in the rainforest vegetation of western Tasmania. This video was produced for the final Dorset Tasmanian History Society meeting of 2021, but unfortunately, as has happened in many ways in the last two years, things did not go to plan. So here is the finished version with commentary and background music. Vision gives a picture of the present and the past but it is music and voice that gives us soul.
