EL DEVASTADOR MAREMOTO DE CUYUTLAN, COLIMA 1932
TELLING STORIES / THE DEVASTATING TSUNASH OF CUYUTLAN, COLIMA, 1932 A sequence of three earthquakes with magnitudes of 8.2, 7.8, and 6.9 on June 3, 18, and 22, 1932, respectively, generated terrifying tsunami waves of varying heights. Despite the fact that the first two earthquakes had larger magnitudes, the June 22 tsunami was the most destructive, generating waves over 10 meters high, devastating 25 kilometers of beach, with water penetrating a kilometer inland, killing more than 75 people, injuring more than a hundred others, and causing significant property damage.
