The spirit of sonship is something the believer receives along with salvation. However, at the opportune moment, when the enemy sees an opening in the believer's life, he places an orphan spirit within them. He does this as a trick and with the purpose of separating the believer from God the Father. An orphan is a child whose parents are absent, dead, or abandoned. One who has an orphan spirit has no home, no place to belong, no security, no family. One who has the orphan spirit is one who has no home. Matthew 3:16–17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:3–11 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him. Luke 4:17–22 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” 20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 And all spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” Matthew 26:62–64 Then the high priest stood up and said to him, “Have you nothing to say? What is this testimony that these men bring against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Matthew 16:13–19 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Romans 8:19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
