TEDxPlazadeMulas - Beatriz García - Acercando el universo a todos
TEDxPlazadeMulas (more talks at TEDxPlazadeMulas.org) In this brilliant talk, Beatriz García shares her passion for astronomy and tells us how one of the most ambitious and inclusive projects developed in Mendoza, Argentina, came to fruition: the creation of a planetarium so that people with visual impairments can access the starry sky. As a PhD in Astronomy specializing in Astrophysics from the National University of La Plata (UNLP), Beatriz García has been part of the International Collaboration at the Pierre Auger-Sur Observatory (for the study of cosmic rays), the International Consortium at the Cherenkov Telescope Array (for the study of gamma rays), and the IAU's Global Astronomy Development Program. She has also held important positions at the Institute of Astroparticle Detection and Technologies, part of CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council), and in the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) Network of Astronomy School Education (NASE) program. As a PhD in Astronomy specializing in Astrophysics from the National University of La Plata (UNLP), Beatriz García has been part of the International Collaboration at the Pierre Auger-Surface Observatory (for the study of gamma rays), the International Consortium at the Cherenkov Telescope Array (for the study of gamma rays), and the IAU's Global Astronomy Development Program. Her passion for teaching, communication, and making astronomy accessible to everyone sets her apart from other professionals in her field. A university and secondary school teacher, she is the author of numerous international scientific papers and popular science articles. She is also the author of the books "The Constellations of the Zodiac: Astronomy for the Blind and Visually Impaired" and "Star Thieves: Ecology of the Night Sky," about light pollution. She has made a significant contribution by creating the Planetarium Project for the Blind, a unique initiative worldwide, designed to bring the starry sky to people with disabilities. Beatriz is a science communicator in various print and audiovisual media: creator and host of CERTEZA CERO, a program on Radio UTN Mendoza nominated for the Martín Fierro Award for the interior of the country in 2005; producer and scientific advisor for MENSAJEROS DEL ESPACIO (Messengers from Space) (Best Educational Video, CINECIEN Award 2006) and other documentary videos. and contributor to "Malos Días", a program also on FM UTN.
