Japan has 1,718 municipalities. Surprisingly, many people don't know the largest and smallest municipalities in Japan. So, I've put together a summary. What I found interesting was the ranking of the largest towns. Surprisingly, Hokkaido occupied the top 8 spots. Well, given Hokkaido's vast area, this is perhaps not surprising, but many of its cities have poor financial situations and mergers are not progressing. Now, let's focus on Japan's smallest town. It's Tadaoka-cho, Senboku-gun, Osaka Prefecture. Even including all municipalities, it's the third smallest local government in Japan. What exactly is in this tiny town?
