Numberdar Association Sub-Division Sankoo Announces Strike Demanding Salary Hike The Numberdar Association of Sub-Division Sankoo, village Numberdar from Parachik to Kanor and Umba to Itchu, held a press conference to announce an indefinite strike demanding a significant increase in their monthly salary. The Association has officially halted all administrative work for the past 15 days following the submission of a formal memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Currently, Numberdars receive a meager monthly salary of only ₹1,500. The Association strongly emphasized that this outdated amount is completely inadequate to sustain a livelihood in today's times and urgently needs a substantial upward revision by the government. While the SDM forwarded their appeal to higher administrative authorities—including the District Magistrate (DC), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and the Chief Secretary of UT Ladakh—no concrete action or official response has been received so far. The Association reiterated that Numberdars remain on duty 24/7, serving as the backbone of local governance by handling character verifications, passport processing, and village-level emergencies. The Association declared that the strike will continue indefinitely and all local administrative assistance will remain suspended until the government officially approves a fair salary hike. They have appealed to the public, local leaders, Councillors, Members of Parliament (MP), and the UT administration to support their justified demand for a salary revision.
